HRD Programme at BCDI

Capacity / skill development training programmes for handicraft artisans / craftsperson / new entrepreneurs / manufacturers / skilled workers with handicraft exporters sanctioned under HRD schemes of O/o Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India vide Sanction order No. I – 15011/ 10 (14) HRD/2009/ dated 22/03/2010 were held at Bamboo and Cane Development Institute (BCDI), Lichubagan, Agartala – 799006, Tripura (West) from 5th April 2010 to 26th February 2011
50 programs were conducted and 1000 Artisans / craftsperson were trained / benefited through this program. 

Well experienced and qualified experts from reputed organization / institution like Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), SIDBI,  Tripura University & NEDFI were engaged for conducting the training programmes. The programmes were conducted in a well organized and professional manner.
The officials from O/o. Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) visited the programme addressed the participants.  The program was also inspected by the officials. The officials appreciated NCDPD/BCDI for conducting the program with a professional attitude.

Training material provided by way of a reference book, “Know your bamboo”. Looking at the local scenario the book was published in Hindi, English and Bengali. Besides a copy of enquirer the official news letter of BCDI was also provided to update the artisans with latest developments.
The practical part of the training included hands on training and product development by using advanced bamboo processing machines at Bamboo Technology Center, BCDI. NCDPD/BCDI made all efforts to disseminate new and innovative designs and adaptation methods to the participants.  The participants were satisfied by getting the designs which are useful for them to create new and ambitious products suitable for local as well as international markets. Through this training, they also got awareness on:

  1 Building-up workforce of new budding entrepreneurs/ artisans
  2 Creation of skilled and trained workforce and development of skills at par with the best available in the world.
  3 Latest marketing techniques
  4 Market oriented design & product development
  5 Project development & credit finance
  6 Improved packaging methodology
  7 Testing, quality and standardization
  8 Trade fair participation
     

The feedback from the beneficiaries was overwhelming and also requested to conduct such activity in future also. The independent evaluation was conducted by third party NEDFI.  They also appreciated for conducting such activities for the benefit of grass root level artisans and also recommended to conduct more activities.

     

 SIGNIFICANT ACHEIVEMENTS

    More than 300 hundered designs of various utilities were distributed to the participants
    More than 200 Prototypes were developed by the artisan and shown to the designers.
     
    A total of 1000 Artisan from all the four districts of Tripura were successfully trained in various aspects of handicrafts. Of these 686 were females and 314 were male participants. The number of candidates belonging to different groups are as follows

Following officials for various organisations and in different capacities visited BCDI and interacted with the trainees of HRD programme.

Two round of evaluation was conducted by the NEDFI. It was recommended that more such programmes could be organised across the NER.
