The team from Bamboo and Cane Development Institute (BCDI) headed by Dr. Abhinav Kant, Mr. Mohit Notta and Johann P. Kwong attended the Workshop on Advocacy and Knowledge Sharing to Artisans, Weavers and Other Associated Persons and Agencies. Organized by the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Commission, Ltd. (NEHHDC); sponsored by Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region in partnership with State Government of Tripura. The activity was held in the Conference Hall of Rajarshi Hotel in Agartala, 10 August 2010.
The event was graced by His Excellency, Governor of Tripura, Dr. P.Y. Patil with other honoured guests; Shri B. Debbarman, General Manager of DHHC, Shri Jagdish Borah of NEHHDC, Shri K. N. Hazarika of NEDFI and Shri Abhjit Bhattacharya. Attendees were artisans, weavers from the handicrafts and handlooms sector of Tripura.
At the event it was announced by Shri Jagdish Borah of NEHHDC that there will be a Handicrafts Museum now underway located in Guwahati. The museum will exhibit different handicrafts, handloom products from different states of North East Region. It is sought to be as the biggest handicrafts museum in Asia and hopefully to be inaugurated by end October this year.
Governor of Tripura, Dr. P.Y. Patil was thankful that such workshop on advocacy and knowledge sharing was held.
Shri K. N. Hazarika of NEDFI stated that there is a need of design and product development, further skills up-gradation for competencies of human resource.
In behalf of BCDI, Dr. Kant reintroduced the mandate, schemes, facilities and up-gradation services, programs being offered by BCDI under the management of National Centre for Design and Product Development (NCDPD)
