B.C.D.I. ON A FORUM OF SCIENCE COMMUNICATORS
Bamboo and Cane Development Institute, Agartala, participated in 11th International Conference on Public Communication of Science and Technology on a theme, “Science Communication without frontiers” organized by International Network for Public communication of Science and Technology in collaboration with National Council for Science and Technology Communication and Indian Science Communication Society, from 6th – 10th Dec 2010. This is mega event held every two years reached India first time since 1989 when the journey of PCST first began. PCST originated in France(1989) and then travelled to Spain (1991), Canada (1994), Australia(1996), Germany(1998), the Switzerland(2001), South Africa(2002),Spain(2004), South Korea(2006),  Sweden and Denmark in 2008 followed by India this year. More than fifty countries participated in the event. 12th  PCST will be held in Florence (Italy) from 18th  to 20th  April in the year of 2012. Former president and Bharat Ratna Awardee Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam inaugurated the 11th PCST conference.

Looking to the importance of this event in time and scale, B.C.D.I. by means of Dr. Abhinav Kant participated in this international gathering of over 500 scientist and science communicators. Public Communication of Science & Technology (PCST) is important for the economic and social wellbeing of society and for the exercise of participatory democracy. The presentation made by Dr. Kant informed the public that despite various odds in the bamboo sector, B.C.D.I., Agartala was up to the task and working relentlessly towards communicating bamboo science and technology to the end user groups.

The 11th PCST Conference deliberated on both practical and theoretical aspects of science communication, in a globalised world with major inequalities and development challenges. Over 500 science communication practitioners and analysts representing more than 50 countries from all continents discussed experiences and perspectives on science-based issues of today and tomorrow. This way B.C.D.I. presented its contribution to public communication of Science and Technology. Participation in an event of such reputation definitely enhanced the presence of B.C.D.I. besides registering the efforts it is making for bamboo science and technology.
