National Centre for Design & Product Development (NCDPD) set up a specially designed theme pavilion for North East handicraft during the  Indian Handicraft & Gifts Fair at Expo Mart at Greater Noida from 15th  October to 18 October 2011 to provide a comprehensive market- enabled international platform to the producers, exporters of India handmade crafts from the entire North East Region. The basic objective of the theme was to provide thrust to the export of handicraft from this region. Bamboo and Cane Development Institute alongwith Entrepreneure from all across the NER participate in the Fair and were part of this theme pavilion.

The North East handicraft has abundant versatility and great potential to increase its reach in the market. Due to lack of a suitable platform and marketing initiative real potential of the region has not been tapped. The theme pavilion during the exhibition provided an opportunity to the craftsmen / artisans, entrepreneurs to interact directly with the overseas buyers. The event also presented an opportunity to overseas buyers to get the products directly from the producers of North Eastern part of the country. The display of the handicraft products at the theme pavilion went a long way in achieving the objective of tapping potential market for J&K handicraft products. The theme pavilion provided a huge business opportunity to the exhibitors. The overseas buyers had the great opportunity to have at one place an assorted display of the products from the region. More than 5000 overseas buyers visited the fair from all over world. North East Region has a vigorous craft tradition which is manifested in the various products from the region.
